The Novice begins..
There I was, at 8am on Thursday morning, sitting in my first ever networking class. I am NOT a computer science major, but as a long standing fan of geeks decided to give the class a go. What’s the worse that could happen….right?
The first thing that I realized about this strange assembly was that I did not know a single person in this class had existed before this moment. I am a senior communication disorders major at my college, and would venture to say that I know most of my peers. The group of geeks surrounding me however seemed to have never stepped foot onto the social scene in my quaint college town; I was not willing to break the “geek” norm however and make a friendly introduction to my neighbors. Alas I sat in silence.
In walks my professor; buked teeth, bed-hair, and yes…suspenders. As the class progressed I realized that I was in for some rough roads ahead. We were asked to come prepared to make an HTML and XML webpage the following week. My eyes dilated, my blood pressure rose….I have never used html. Yes, I have to admit I am a mozilla lady myself (even the occasional front page user–for which I am ashamed). KISS- keepin’ it simple is my ticket to success.
That day I worked furviously learning HTML…tags…hex…color codes….save as….repeat. I began to research the other activites we will be involved in during the semester of networking. Among such topics, learning binarystuck out in my head. One’s and zero’s may seem as comfortable as mom’s pumpkin pie to you, but for me…it gives me the we-be-gee-be’s. Yes this is going to be a long semester.
So as my friend here writes about his troubles with FreeBSD and Cpanel, I have bigger fish to fry. How do I fake being GEEK??
More to this saga later…
